Canon 77D reads odd, right? This is what made me think twice as well the time I got to know about this rumored entry-level DSLR camera. Yes, Canon might surprise us by not introducing a new camera model which is a multiple of 10. This is possible because they already have 60D, 70D and 80D camera models in the market. The model number 77D also indicated that this camera probably would be placed below the Canon 80D, and possible an upgraded version of 70D.
Camera rumor site Digicame-info has leaked the specs and photos of the soon to be launched (probably) Canon 77D camera.
Analyzing the leaked photos, I found that Canon has changed the shape of the LCD display placed at the top and a new button has been added at the back. The 77D features the Dual-pixel CMOS AF system, the same technology that is being used in the 80D.
The image sensor has 24.2 megapixels and it allows you to choose from 45 auto-focus points. The 77D also features a vari-angle LCD 3′ touchscreen.
Canon EOS 77D Speculated Specifications:
- Effective pixel number: 24.2 million pixels
- Processor: DIGIC 7
- Dual pixel CMOS AF
- AF point: 45 points
- Continuous: Up to 6 frames / sec
- ISO range: 100-25600
- LCD: 3″ touch panel, variable angle
- Built-in Wi-Fi / Bluetooth
- Size: 131.0 × 99.9 × 76.2 mm
- Weight: 540 g
There has been no official announcement by Canon about the possibility of the launch of 77D camera mode, but I would not be surprised if they discontinue the Canon 70D model after the new launch.
If we compare the specs of Canon 77D with Canon EOS 70D and Canon EOS 80D, this rumored camera has more focusing points than the 70D (19 AF points) and similar to that featured in the 80D. The processor seems to be upgraded, as it features DIGIC 7 whereas the 70D has DIGIC 5+ and the 80D has DIGIC 6.
Overall, this looks like a good upgrade to 70D but I wonder what would happen to 80D then as it has almost the same specs. There might be some catch, so let’s wait and watch for the official announcement.
