Travel photography using Coolpad Cool 1

Being a photography enthusiast, traveling is something that inspires and boosts you to keep clicking creative frames by visiting places around you. Travel photography is all about capturing the essence of a particular place in your photos, be it using a DSLR camera or a mobile phone camera.

Recently I got to use the Coolpad Cool 1 mobile phone and I decided to get out and roam around the Delhi city to capture different frames. I love to click photos using both my DSLR camera as well as mobile phone camera, but I prefer the latter more. Dual-camera setup

The most exciting and addictive feature in this phone is the SLR mode, which uses the dual-camera setup to give amazing bokeh effect. Using this mode you can completely blow out the background, thus focusing only on the subject. What’s more exciting is that you can change the focus point in the photo by tapping anywhere, that too after clicking the photo. By using the SLR mode you can click DSLR-like travel photos of flowers, local people and small objects.

Talking about the dual-camera setup in the Coolpad Cool 1, one sensor captures RGB color tones whereas the second one captures monochrome tones. This mix of both the sensors ensures that the photos you click have more details in terms of highlights and shadows. This ensures that when you click photos of buildings, monuments or architecture with the sky in the frame, you get correct exposure of the structure as well as the sky. Otherwise usually what happens while using a single-camera phone is that either the structure is correctly exposed ot the sky and the other gets underexposed or overexposed.

Fast and accurate focusing

What really impressed me about this phone while using it for travel photography is its ability to focus on the subject really fast. While you are traveling, most of the times you do not have much time to capture some moments. You have to be swift in taking out your phone and getting the focus correct in order to capture sharp photos. It not only focusing fast but the accuracy of focusing on the subject is also really impressive, this helps in capturing well focused and sharp photos while you are walking down the streets or are in a moving vehicle.

HDR Mode to increase the dynamic range

You might be traveling in a place which has beautiful monuments or hills and all you love to do is take out your phone and start clicking photos. In such situations the HDR mode is a must and while using the Coolpad Cool 1 I was quite happy with this mode. While clicking photos of the monument, all I had to do was frame my scene in such a manner that both the monument and the sky was fairly visible. The phone internally clicked and merged three different exposures and as a final image got a high dynamic range photo which has properly exposed monument as well as the sky.

PRO Mode to capture creative photos

Being a professional photographer I love shooting in manual mode, it allows me to explore my creative side. The PRO mode in Coolpad Cool 1 is basically the manual mode which allows you to adjust the shutter speed, white balance, ISO, exposure compensation, focusing modes, saturation and contrast. I have been using multiple mobile cameras but this is the first device which allowed me to control the saturation and contrast in manual mode.

By adjusting the shutter speed you can freeze a moving subject as well as capture a long exposure. You can also let the camera track the moving subject by changing the focusing mode to continuous.

Last-longing battery

While traveling, the last thing that you want is the battery of your mobile phone to die. The 4000 mAh battery allows the Coolpad Cool 1 to shoot continuous for more than 8 hours as per my experience. This is one of the USPs of this phone if you love clicking photos using your mobile camera.
