Canon recently announced the all new EOS 80D along with a much advanced 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens. The Canon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens will be paired with the EOS 80D as a kit lens.
This upgraded lens is the first lens by Canon that is equipped with Nano USM focusing motor. Nano USM is a new type of focusing motor system which combines the benefits of USM (ring ultrasonic motor)and STM (stepping motor).
The function of USM motor is to deliver high speed AF while shooting photos, and the STM functions to provide quiet and smooth focusing while recording videos. This is awesome, as now you would not have to choose from two different categories of lenses, all you need to invest in is this lens as it offers both STM and USM.
But how does it perform when compared to the already existing Canon 18-135mm lens?
The new Canon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens comes with improved and much advanced AF system, resulting in approximately 4.3x AF speed on a telephoto lens and 2.5x on a wide-angle lens. It also comes with premium exterior design which gives this lens a smooth satin finish and has dedicated switches for focus modes and IS.
The new lens also boosts a feature also present in its predecessor, the 4-stops optical image stabilization which reduces camera shake while clicking stills shooting videos.
The exciting new Canon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens will be available in the market during March 2016, priced at $600. This lens also comes as kit lens along with the Canon EOS 80D and the kit will cost $1,800.
